Recently, Foton Motor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Foton) released its sales data of the first quarter. In the first three months of 2009, the company sold 124,650 units of vehicles, accounting for 30% of its sales plan for the whole year. Till now, Foton has remained the top player in domestic commercial vehicle industry for three consecutive years.
Statistics show that the production and sales volumes of China’s passenger cars reached 1.8750 million and 1.9957 million respectively in Q1, up 4.45％ and 7.81％ y/y. In contrast, those of commercial vehicles stood at 692,600 and 683,100 respectively, down by 4.38％ and 6.13％ y/y. Against the anemic market backdrop, Foton fared pretty well and its statistics reached new record highs.
WANG Xiangyin, Deputy General Manager of Foton revealed that the company continued its readjustment of product mix. More attention was given to the rollout of new energy powered vehicles and high fuel economy. Thanks to its swift move to satisfy the new market needs, the company has now laid a solid foundation for its future business expansion.
In terms of marketing, Foton is making more efforts in direct sales to its major customers. Besides, it has been strengthening strategic ties with those large-sized enterprises directly under the administration of the central government and other state-owned enterprises. In response to the newly launched trial operation of new energy coaches in thirteen cities across China, Foton has set up special work team to closely track the procurement information of these cities and take every opportunity to popularize Foton hybrid coaches.
Sticking to its development motto “One Step Ahead to Create New Market”, Foton joined hands with Commins and set up Beijing Foton Commins Engine Co., Ltd. Currently, the company’s 2.8 liter and 3.8 liter light-duty diesel engines can help vehicles improve fuel economy by 7%. Moreover, their durability can be improved significantly.
