Golden Dragon INSIGHT Autonomous Driving Mini-Buses Serve World University Games in Chengdu

The 31st FISU World University Games Summer is scheduled to kick off in Chengdu on July 28. Golden Dragon’s new generation of autonomous driving mini-buses INSIGHT has already been put into operation, providing transportation services for volunteers and athletes.

According to sources, it is the very first time for World University Games to have autonomous driving buses in service. While providing more convenient and efficient transportation services, INSIGHT mini-buses help the host city Chengdu cut carbon emissions and save energy.

With its mass production officially launched in Sept., 2022, INSIGHT mini-bus is entirely powered by electricity and is able to drive 360 km continuously. Equipped with GNSS, SLAM, 8 solid-state laser radars, MOGO hardware & software for autonomous driving, and special positioning technologies, it can detect barriers as small as 15 centimeters in length within a radius of 200 meters and achieves accurate positioning. After detecting other objects on the road, INSIGHT can make response within 0.1 second. Achieving L4 autonomous driving, the bus is readily adaptable to various complex working conditions on urban roads, enclosed and semi-enclosed driving areas.

On the INSIGHT mini-bus, the driving wheel, the brake and the throttle are all removed and available are such travel facilities as more comfortable seats, transparent small table, interactive LED screens, giving it a futuristic look. Possessing a more streamlined body structure, INSIGHT mini-bus has a loading capacity of nine passengers. It mainly works on the main roads within the Universiade Village in Chengdu.

As one of the leading players in China’s bus-making industry, Golden Dragon developed its first unit autonomous driving bus in 2012. Pursuing an innovation-driven development road, the bus maker has made a host of technological breakthroughs in autonomous driving vehicle field.
