How did Ankai manage to stand out in the area of new energy bus & coach? Let’s follow our reporter to take a closer look.

As is known to all, heavy investments are sorely needed in R&D of new energy bus & coach. Ankai has been among the handful few bus & coach builders which spent lavishly in this area. Its investments gradually bore fruits, but it did not rest on its past glories, instead, the company continued to intensify its efforts in developing new bus & coach models powered by new energy. Thus, its spending in the new sector has been on the rise year on year. According to some staff concerned from Ankai, the company will allocate RMB 15 million (about USD 2.20 million) in its R&D work, accounting of about 3% of its total turnover.

From 2004 to 2008, Ankai mobilized its bus building experts and invested heavily in R&D of new energy technologies. In terms of bearing technologies, it successfully rolled out the second and the third generation all-electric coaches, including the first luxury coach HFF6127K46EV, the first intelligent mobile business office HFF5120XFW in China. Moreover, it is the first company in China whose all-electric coach technologies have been applied in buses and luxury coaches.

Compared with its first generation of all-electric coach, the third one has made significant progress in a number of areas. First, the power has been markedly improved and the maximum speed of the new generation coach can reach 130Km/h. Second, the recharging time was shortened from eight hours previously to less than four hours. Third, the alternating use of lithium battery and ultra-capacitor has bettered the new coach’s performance and enhanced the durability of the batteries.

Apart from its great accomplishments in the area of all-electric coach, Ankai has also made marked progress in hybrid bus & coach. For example, its HFF6110GZ-3 hybrid buses were put into service in Shanghai. After one year’s operation, the data indicate that the fuel economy can be improved by as much as over 20%.

According to some insiders, the fuel cell technologies are now at its primary stage. However, it will undoubtedly become the trend-setter in the new energy sector. While developing all-electric and hybrid coaches, Ankai has been sparing no efforts in R&D of fuel cell coaches, which require more complex technologies.
