Apr. 9, 2009: A grand opening ceremony was held by Shanghai Shenlong Bus Co., Ltd. to mark the official operation of the bus builder’s new production base. Leaders of the company, officials from related government agencies and guests from a number of foreign countries, including USA, Switzerland, Russia, Thailand, and Malaysia, were all present at the occasion while Shanghai Shenlong New Energy R&D Center was unveiled to the public. In addition, Shanghai Shenlong signed a cooperative contract with Switzerland-based Ouken Corp. on aluminum body frame technologies and handed its first batch of exports in 2009 to the US-based BCI Corp.

Starting official operation in Sept. 2005, Shanghai Shenlong witnessed a brisk business expansion. In 2008, the company sold 3,127 units of complete buses, ranking the 14th place in China’s bus & coach industry. In the same year, its export value stood at RMB 250 million (about USD 36.59 million), ranking the eighth place among China’s bus & coach builders. Due to its fast growth, the company’s production base located at Kangqiao Industrial Zone could no longer satisfy its customers’ demands. Thus, the company made a total investment of RMB 320 million (about USD 46.83 million) and built the new production base covering a total area of 200,000 square meters and boasting six production lines. As the new base kicks off its official operation, it is capable of manufacturing 10,000 units of buses each year, laying a solid foundation for the company’s further expansion.

The company’s cooperative projects on “light-weight hybrid coach” with the US-based Eton Co. and “Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus” with Shanghai Shen-Li Hi-tech Co., Ltd. have been recognized as the “First Batch of New Energy Vehicle Hi-tech Industrialization Promotion Project for 2010 World Expo” by Shanghai New Energy Vehicle Promotion Working Group.

As a fast-growing business, Shanghai Shenlong passed ISO9001 and 2000 Quality Management System Certificate in Oct. 2005. In Jan. 2008, it got TS16949 Quality Management Certificate. In Mar. 2009, it received ISO14001 Environment Management System Certificate and OHSAS18001 Occupational Health Safety Management System Certificate. Having made such big achievements, the company has laid a solid foundation for the sound development of its business.
