Apr. 9, 2009: recently, Zhongtong Bus inked a deal with Jinan Electric Vehicle Operation Co., Ltd. and Jinan Public Transport Company. The bus builder is expected to deliver 180 units of new energy buses worth over RMB 200 million to the two carriers in Jinan, Shandong Province. This is the largest purchasing order of new energy buses via public bidding in China. Before 2010, Jinan plans to put 300 units of new energy buses on its road, 240 units of which will be manufactured by Zhongtong Bus.
Jinan is one of the demonstration cities for the trial operation of energy-saving and new-energy vehicles. Moreover, the 11th National Games will be held in the city in Oct. 2009. To better prepare itself for the upcoming event, the city plans to buy a fleet of new energy buses for its public transport system.
According to sources, the bus model which won the bid is 12-meter long and of low floor and powered by diesel hybrid engine. With the same look as the 12-meter-long BRT buses currently in operation in the city, the new bus can meet the National V Emission Standards and improves energy efficiency by over 30% compared with the common buses that meet the National Ⅲ Emission Standard.
