Today Scania is inaugurating an industrial facility in Taipei, Taiwan for assembly and equipping complete vehicles directly to the local market. From this facility, Scania will deliver complete vehicles that are adapted to the requirements and operating conditions that apply in Taiwan.

The establishment of a delivery centre in Taiwan is part of Scania’s strategy to strengthen its position in important growth markets. It represents a major improvement in Scania’s customer support in that market, while providing a clear sign of the company’s long-term commitment.

The facility in Taipei will have a capacity for of about 500 trucks and bus chassis per year. To begin with, the number of employees will be limited to around 20 persons.

Scania will work together with a number of locally selected suppliers of superstructures and equipment. Working with local suppliers will mean short lead and delivery times, providing a major advantage to Scania as it expands its operations in Taiwan.

The operations of the delivery centre will also include pre-delivery inspection (PDI) service.

The Taiwan facility is Scania’s third delivery centre. Since 2007 South Africa has had a delivery centre in charge of deliveries to southern Africa. In January 2009, another centre opened in Malaysia, responsible for delivering fully built vehicles to Malaysia and Thailand.

Later this year, Scania will also inaugurate a delivery centre in Dubai to increase its presence in the growing Arab markets of the Gulf region.

Scania is also studying the potential for establishing delivery centres in Russia and South Korea.
