English.chinabuses.com: recently at the Sixth Changchun Auto Expo held in the provincial capital of Jilin Province, XU Heyi, President of Beijing Automobile Industry Holding Co., Ltd. (also known as BAIC) pointed out that in face of a number of challenges and difficulties, China’s automakers, including bus builders should beat a new cooperative path to realize global expansion. Apart from upgrading technological level and introducing more trend-setting products, enterprises involved in the auto industry should also make constant efforts to realize breakthroughs in worldwide operation of their brands.

XU Heyi, President of BAIC

In the past two decades, China’s auto industry, the bus building sector in particular, has grown by leaps and bounds. Through making constant self-innovation or setting up cooperative ties with a host of internationally famed automakers, manufacturers of both passenger cars and commercial vehicles have become competitive enough to play in the global market.

Beiqi Foton signed a Commercial Vehicle Cooperation Agreement with Daimler AG

In recent years, almost every bus builders have been working hard to market their products in the international market. Thanks to their stylish exterior and reliable performance, Chinese buses have enjoyed great popularity abroad. However, compared with those big names in this sector, the domestic enterprises still have a long way to go. Currently, a number of problems, such as brand operation, construction of post-sales networks, integration of supply chains and cultural communication, are in desperate need of improvement.

Under such a backdrop, XU proposes that bus builders and passenger car manufacturers alike need to seek new ways to cooperate in their process of globalization. In early this year, Beiqi Foton signed Commercial Vehicle Cooperation Agreement with Daimler AG. It is expected that the two companies’ joint venture (JV) will officially kick off its operation in the fourth quarter of this year. Different from the past cooperative mode, the new JV will excise Foton’s marketing practice in the global market. Through the new mode of cooperation, Daimler will perfect its product line while Beiqi Foton can more easily access the overseas market. Thus, win-win results are generated for both parties.
