China New Energy Vehicles Sales Rose to 412,000 Units in H1 2018

Statistics released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) show that in the first half of 2018, China’s production volume of new energy vehicles (including electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles) reached 413,000 units. From January to June, China’s sales volume of new energy vehicles stood at 412,000 units, up by 111.5% year on year.

From January to June, China sold 313,000 units electric vehicles, up by 96.0% year on year; during the same period, China’s sales volume of plug-in hybrid vehicles registered at 99,000 units, up by 181.6% year on year.

The sales volume of new energy passenger vehicles in China in the first half of 2018 grew by 70% year on year, reaching 355,000 units; the sales volume of new energy commercial vehicles in China in the first half of 2018 dropped by 29.9% year on year, registering at 58,000 units.

The sales volume of electric passenger vehicles in the first half of this year accounted for 63% of the total sales volume of new energy passenger vehicles; the sales volume of plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles in the first half of this year made up 23% of the total sales volume of new energy passenger vehicles.

The sales volume of electric commercial vehicles in the first half of 2018 accounted for 13% of the total sales volume of commercial vehicles in the same period; the sales volume of plug-in hybrid commercial vehicles in the first half of 2018 took up only 1% of the total sales volume of commercial vehicles.

In June, the sales volume of different types of new energy vehicles experienced some downward movements except plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles. The sales volume of plug-in hybrid commercial vehicles plummeted by 77.8% year on year. The obvious slowdown of the sales of electric vehicles in June can be somewhat attributed to absence of subsidies from the governments.

According to CAAM, China’s sales volume of new energy vehicles is expected to hit one million units in 2018.(www.chinabuses.org)
