Golden Dragon Delivers Another Batch of New Energy Buses to Pakistan

On June 18, at Golden Dragon's Haicang production base in Xiamen, rows of brand-new green 12-meter BRT buses stood in formation, their red silk ribbons on the front particularly eye-catching. That day, a total of 52 Golden Dragon new energy buses were officially handed over and will be shipped in batches from Xiamen Port to Peshawar, a historic city in Pakistan.

This was no ordinary delivery. It was a "trust order" proactively placed by the Peshawar BRT project operator after the first batch of vehicles had operated efficiently and stably for nearly six years. This recognition from thousands of miles away not only crowns the quality of "Made in China" once again, but also serves as a vivid reflection of the deepening cooperation and people-to-people connectivity between China and Pakistan under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Peshawar's "Happiness Express": A Chinese Solution to Operational Challenges

Peshawar was once a major trading hub on the ancient Silk Road. However, due to historical reasons and geographical constraints, local public transportation had long lagged behind, making travel extremely inconvenient for residents.

The change began in 2018. In an international bidding process featuring rigorous evaluation by experts from multiple countries, Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus Co., Ltd. won the bid with its solid technical strength and customized solutions, becoming the sole vehicle supplier for the Peshawar BRT project and exclusively securing a mega-order for 240 plug-in hybrid buses.

To address Peshawar's high-temperature, high-load operating environment, Golden Dragon's technical team conducted specialized research and development. "These vehicles are truly tailor-made," said Jiang Yonghui, Deputy General Manager of Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus Co., Ltd., at the delivery ceremony. The buses are benchmarked against the highest international standards in manufacturing processes and reliability design, with particular upgrades to the air conditioning system to ensure rapid cooling and stable operation even in extreme heat.

In terms of energy consumption and power, these buses adopt a plug-in hybrid system that achieves low fuel consumption and low emissions while avoiding the "range anxiety" caused by insufficient local charging infrastructure. Notably, the entire fleet is equipped with WiFi, USB charging ports, and wheelchair-accessible passages, bringing a more comfortable travel experience to Peshawar's citizens.

From "Gold Standard" to "Golden Reputation": Repeat Orders Demonstrate "Winning with Quality"

Since the Peshawar BRT project officially launched in August 2020, this green fleet of Golden Dragon buses has shouldered the heavy responsibility of providing daily transportation services for 340,000 citizens. Data shows that these vehicles operate more than 400 kilometers per bus per day, running at high capacity throughout the year, yet consistently maintaining an extremely low failure rate.

It is this solid and stable performance that earned the Peshawar BRT project the "Gold Standard" award from the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) in 2022, with a score as high as 97 points—a new global high for BRT system ratings at the time, making it the first BRT project in South Asia to receive this honor. This award is known as the "Oscar" of the public transportation sector, and its prestige speaks for itself.

"This repeat order was not won through short-term low-price marketing, but rather the result of reliable performance throughout the vehicle's full lifecycle, customized adaptation capabilities, and localized service systems," Jiang Yonghui emphasized. In his view, this additional order for 52 buses directly validates the correctness of Golden Dragon's overseas strategy of refusing to engage in price wars and insisting on "winning with quality."

Zubair, Secretary of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Department of Transport and Mass Transit, who attended the delivery ceremony, stated: "The riding experience of the previous batch of buses has been excellent, and local citizens have full confidence in this model. Golden Dragon buses not only feature outstanding product quality but have also continuously completed quality improvements. I believe these new buses will further enhance public transportation support services for the people."

From Peshawar residents eagerly "checking in" on China's BRT, to the operator proactively placing follow-up orders; from the long whistle at Xiamen Port, to the green journey across the South Asian continent—these new energy buses traversing mountains and seas not only carry the aspirations of Pakistani people for a better life, but also demonstrate the strong resilience and unlimited potential of Fujian manufacturing and Chinese brands in the global industrial chain.
