From the blazing sun of the Gobi Desert to the heatwaves of urban roads, BYD has always treated summer testing as an indispensable “compulsory course” in product development and validation.

In Turpan, Xinjiang, where ground temperatures soar as high as 81.7°C, BYD conducted high-temperature trials of its new all-electric bus, the C11, and showcased 17 of its key models designed for various scenarios including public transport, logistics, and port operations. Numerous industry experts and authoritative media witnessed firsthand the reliable performance of BYD’s commercial vehicles under such extreme conditions.

Driving and riding comfort, along with range reliability under high temperatures, were key aspects under scrutiny. The C11’s high-efficiency air conditioning system demonstrated outstanding performance. Real-time data showed that even after prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, with cabin temperatures exceeding 60°C, the system could rapidly cool the interior to a comfortable level.

Meanwhile, the vehicle’s charging performance remained stable and dependable. Thanks to BYD’s advanced battery thermal management system, the bus can charge efficiently even in high-temperature environments. The system precisely regulates battery temperature to ensure the power system operates safely and stably under extreme heat.

In a series of dynamic performance tests, the C11’s active suspension system played a central role. During slalom, circular track, and emergency obstacle avoidance tests, the system responded swiftly, adjusting suspension stiffness and damping in real time based on road conditions and vehicle behavior. This effectively minimized body roll, enhancing handling stability and ride comfort, and allowing the vehicle to navigate complex road conditions with ease.

During emergency braking tests, the C11’s braking system reacted sensitively, with precise control over pedal travel and braking force. The vehicle remained stable throughout the process, significantly reducing the “nose-dive” effect common in conventional buses. This not only improved ride comfort but also provided a solid foundation for driving safety, underscoring BYD’s profound expertise in vehicle safety technology.

To date, BYD’s commercial vehicles have undergone eight consecutive years of high-temperature, low-temperature, and high-altitude testing. The program has spanned 1,246 testing days, involved 111 test vehicles, and engaged over 200 engineers. A total of 468 test scenarios have been meticulously designed and executed, comprising 3,602 individual tests, with dynamic test mileage exceeding 2 million kilometers. This rigorous and comprehensive testing system has laid a solid foundation for the reliable performance of BYD’s buses and trucks in various extreme environments.

The extreme heat of Turpan not only put the C11 bus to the test but also vividly demonstrated the core technological strength and manufacturing resilience of BYD’s commercial vehicle division. Starting from the intense heat of Turpan, BYD is addressing diverse operational needs worldwide with its full range of reliable, extreme-environment-verified products, providing robust momentum for the global transition to zero-carbon transportation.
