This year marks the 10th anniversary of the official launch of Belt & Road Initiative. In Just ten years, trade among the Belt & Road countries has reached an unprecedented level. According to the statistics released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), China exported 582,000 units commercial vehicles in 2022, up by 44.9% year on year.
As one of the leading bus makers in China, Golden Dragon has so far established a solid presence in over 20 Belt & Road countries with a combined sales volume of over 50,000 units. According to the bus maker, the number of its light buses working in Egypt has exceeded 33,000 units so far. “Light is now playing a pivotal role in the public transport market in Egypt, providing more convenient and more comfortable travel services for local residents”, said An Min, General Manager of Golden Dragon Overseas Sales Company.
In 2009, An Min was sent to Egypt by Golden Dragon to promote the company’s bus sales. In order to have a thorough understanding of the local bus market, An Min spent months talking to many bus drivers and local residents, noting down their special needs and complaints.
In 2010, EL Kasrawy based in Egypt showed interest in Light manufactured by Golden Dragon. After three months of negotiations, the company bought 300 units Lights, which accounted for 30% of Golden Dragon’s export volume in that year. In 2022, Golden Dragon and EL Kasrawy jointly built a CKD factory in Egypt, which allows the bus maker to assemble Light locally. Boasting the most advanced production lines in the world, the CKD factory in Egypt is able to roll out over 600 units Lights each month.
Apart from Egypt, Golden Dragon has also built its CKD factories in Kazakhstan, Thailand, Vietnam and Ethiopia. In 2022, its CKD factories across the globe rolled out a total number of 2,700 units buses & coaches, up by 180% year on year. These factories have not only helped the bus maker to cut its delivery costs, but also have created many job opportunities for local residents.
