On December 21, Yuchai officially released hydrogen engine for commercial vehicles at Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), marking a huge step forward for the engine maker. As a new milestone for the utilization of hydrogen power, the new engine also ushers in a brand new era for the internal combustion engine industry. It can be widely used on city buses, logistic vehicles and sanitation vehicles, etc. Currently, Yuchai boasts a wide spectrum of engine products that can be powered by fossil fuels and a variety of new energies.

Yuchai Officially Launches China’s First Hydrogen Engine for Commercial Vehicles

According to Yuchai, its YCK06 hydrogen engine is equipped with a host of advanced technologies, including high pressure multi-points port fuel injection technology, highly efficient E-turbo charge technology, highly efficient lean combustion technology, etc. In addition, it has further optimized its structure, combustion system, and gas supply system. By doing so, Yuchai has successfully overcome a series of thorny problems concerning hydrogen engines.

According to Sun Bogang, a professor from BIT, YCK05 hydrogen engine can achieve the same and even better thermal efficiency compared with hydrogen fuel cells. In addition, it further cuts the refill time, which can be even less than that of fossil fuel powered engines.

Hydrogen engine represents the most effective solution for China to cut its carbon emissions and reach carbon neutralization. As one of the leading engine makers in China, Yuchai has launched its research & development of hydrogen engines for many years. In recent years, it has been working closely with BIT in this promising field.
