Recently, a truck fleet, consisting three heavy-duty trucks and two light trucks, all of which are equipped with Cummins engines, successfully passed stringent tests in Tibet.

The truck fleet, after traveling to 15 cities across China in nearly six months on a tour known as “100 Year Cummins, Beautiful China”, made the trip to Lhasa, the capital city of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region via Lanzhou and Golmud. Despite a number of challenges posed along the trip by the high altitude and long distances, Cummins Z14 and F4.5 engines, both fully meeting National VI Emission Standards, delivered stable and consistently powerful performances along the 7,000 km-plus trip.

On August 12, Cummins Z14 engine mounted on Dongfeng Tianlong flagship truck, Cummins F4.5 engine mounted on Foton Aumark, Cummins X12 engine mounted on Foton-Daimler self-dump truck were all put on display in Lhasa. They were all there for trial operation by customers, attracting wide media attention.

On the same day, a seminar themed with “100 Year Cummins, Engines for Mining Machinery” was held in Lhasa. The engine maker’s major customers, including Tibet Julong Copper, Inner Mongolia North Hauler Joint Stock Co., Ltd., XCMG, China Shenhua Group, attended the seminar and exchanged their views on the future development of engines in the mining industry.

Cummins large horsepower engine for mining purpose can work around the clock, creating more added values for customers. Currently, 95% mining machinery in Tibet are equipped with Cummins engines, providing consistently reliable power for mining. “The mining market is the very starting point for us and is still one of the key markets for us. We are fully committed to providing high quality engine products for our customers” said Steve Chapman, Vice President of Cummins.

“Tibet boasts rich natural resources and a huge market potential for large horsepower engines. We will continue to strengthen R&D efforts to meet the fast growing demand for our products,” said Xiang Yongdong, General Manager of Cummins China Power Systems.

On July 1 this year, Cummins officially revealed its key technologies and services for engines with National VI Emission Standards, which have made significant improvements in such areas as structural design, intelligent control, gas intake system and emission treatment system on the basis of engines with Euro VI Emission Standards.

Apart from its core business in diesel powered engines, Cummins has successfully developed key technologies for natural gas powered engines, hybrid engines and electricity powered engines. In late 2017, 20 units buses powered by Cummins B6.7G natural gas powered engines started operation in Lhasa. Particularly designed for 8-12 meter city buses, Cummins B6.7G natural gas powered engine delivers 190-255 horsepower and a maximum torque of 860 N.m. Thanks to a host of advanced technologies, the engine fully ensures the smooth operation of buses in demanding working conditions.
