Proposal on betterment of barrier-free public transport system
LI Shufu, President of Geely Auto: the physically challenged and the senior are an important group in China’s society. By the end of 2006, China’s total population of the disabled and the senior (above 65 years old) reached 82.96 million and 104.19 million respectively, accounting for 6.3% and 7.9% of the country’s total population. Due to their physical problems, these people cannot enjoy the public transport system as the common people do. In order to carry out government’s “Put People First” initiative, measures such as providing barrier-free public transport facilities and a 5-10 percentage increase of the barrier-free bus and taxi fleets should be taken as soon as possible.
