China sold 58,100 units large-sized buses and 45,000 units mid-buses in 2020, down by 23.34% and 32.04% year on year respectively. In sharp contrast, the sales volume of light buses in China reached 334,400 units, up by 6.50% year on year.
Based on the power sources, the sales volume of diesel powered buses in China reached 272,000 units in 2020, up by 5.43% year on year and accounting for 62.18% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020. The sales volume of gasoline powered buses in China stood at 83,700 units, down by 17.47% year on year and accounting for 19.13% of the total sales volume of buses in 2020. The sales volume of natural gas powered buses stood at 2,000 units, down by 39.67% year on year and accounting for 0.47% of the total sales volume of buses in 2020.
The sales volume of new energy buses reached 79,400 units, down by 13.87% year on year. More specifically, electric buses sold 74,400 units, down by 12.37% year on year and accounting for 17.00% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020; plug-in hybrid buses sold 4,100 units, down by 28.06% year on year and accounting for 0.94% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020; fuel cell buses sold 962 units, down by 41.63% year on year.
Divided by regions, East China sold 152,600 units buses, up by 15.33% year on year and accounting for 43.58% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020; North china sold 47,100 units buses, up by 6.87% year on year and accounting for 13.46% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020; Central & South China sold 72,500 units buses, down by 11.06% year on year and accounting for 20.71% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020; Southwest China sold 42,400 units bus, down by 8.07% year on year and accounting for 12.10% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020; Northwest China sold 20,400 units buses, down by 11.28% year on year and accounting for 5.83% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020; Northeast China sold 15,100 units buses, down by 22.44% year on year and accounting for 4.32% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020.
In 2020, China sold 32,100 units buses for special purposes, up by 10.80% and accounting for 8.26% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020; travel coaches sold 5,600 units, down by 7.83% year on year and accounting for 1.45% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020; long-distance coaches sold 42,600 units, down by 30.21% year on year and accounting for 10.95% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020; city buses sold 92,500 units, down by 13.04% year on year and accounting for 23.76% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020; school buses sold 7,500 units, down by 35.24% year on year and accounting for 1.93% of China’s total sales volume of buses in 2020. The sales volume of buses for other purposes accounted for 53.65% of China’s total sales volume in 2020.
In 2020, the top ten players in China’s bus market included JMC (91,100 units, 20.83%), SAIC Maxus (59,700 units, 13.65%), BAIC Foton (42,700 units, 9.75%), Yutong (41,800 units, 9.55%), Chang’an (38,700 units,8.85%), Nanjing Iveco (28,400 units, 6.49%), King Long (20,300 units, 4.65%), Golden Dragon (16,300 units, 3.72%), Zhongtong (10,800 units, 2.48%), and Nenault Brilliance (10,400 units, 2.38%). The combined sales volume of the top ten players reached 360,100 units buses & coaches, accounting for 82.33% of China’s total sales volume of buses and coaches in 2020.
In 2020, China exported 41,100 units buses & coaches to its customers in the overseas market, down by 34.45%. The total export volume accounted for 9.40% of China’s total sales volume of buses & coaches in 2020. More specifically, China’s export volume of large-sized buses reached 12,200 units, down by 32.10% year on year; the export volume of mid-sized buses stood at 2,900 units, down by 49.38% year on year; the export volume of light buses stood at 25,900 units, down by 33.32% year on year.
