Seven Highlights in Q1 of City Bus Market in China

2014-04-29    Source:www.chinabuses.org
Summarize:

www.chinabuses.org: In the first quarter of 2014, China sold 16,522 city buses, up by 3.85% against the same period last year. A detailed analysis of the domestic city bus market shows that sector is growing with seven highlights:

First, super-large city buses played a major role for the growth of the whole sector in the first quarter. After the sector staying sluggish for four years, it grew 680% in the first quarter by selling nearly 700 more this year in the first three months.

Second, 11-12 meter city buses were sold with the largest sales volume, remaining the main force in the market. However, the sector saw 9.97% downward movement, the first negative growth ever experienced by the sector in the past five years.

Third, in the field of new energy buses, light-weight green city buses saw the fastest growth, even though their sales volume was the smallest. In sharp contrast, the large-sized green city buses witnessed the largest sales volume, but the growth was the least robust. Before 2011, the new energy bus sector had been growing dramatically, indicating that the market holds great business potential. However, in the first quarter of 2012, the market registered a negative growth, down by 16.9%. In the first quarter of 2013, it rebounded, up by 19% year on year. This year, the sector went up, but its growth rate is lower than that of last year.

Fourth, gas-powered city buses also witnessed significant rise, particularly LNG buses, whose sales volume reached nearly 2,000, up by 17.5% year on year, way above the average growth rate of the whole market.

Fifth, the first-tier bus-makers delivered a less satisfactory performance. Among Xiamen Kinglong, Xiamen Golden Dragon, Suzhou Higer, and Zhengzhou Yutong, only Yutong's growth rate which stood at 14.3% was higher than the whole sector. The rest three were lagging far behind the average growth rate, all of which registered negative growth.
