On April 22, the 1st Digital China Summit officially kicked off in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. Apolong, the first commercial self-driving bus jointly developed by King Long and Baidu, was put on display.

Boasting a unique agile body, Apolong represents the highest bus manufacturing technology and is set to usher a brand-new era of global vehicle industry. Without any human assistance, Apolong is fully able to accomplish a series of complex driving tasks.

Not long ago, King Long and Baidu jointly carried out a test on Apolong in Pingtan, Fujian province, ushering a new age for the commercialization of self-driving vehicles in the province. Currently, Apolong is chiefly targeted at the “last-mile” transportation market. Very soon, the bus will be put into operation for public transportation, tourist transportation, etc.

On Apolong, its sensor system, integrated navigation system and vehicle computing center all play key roles in helping the vehicle realize automatic driving. Its sensor system consists of laser radar, millimeter wave radar, high dynamic range (HDR) camera module and stereo-camera. On the rooftop and two sides of Apolong, three lazar radars are mounted to help the bus gain a thorough understanding of road conditions.

At the head and rear part of Apolong, five single-vision cameras and one dual-vision camera are available to help the vehicle detect pedestrians and other vehicles.

In addition, RTM light composite materials, integrated arc-curved glass, wider electric doors, automatic barrier-free aisles are a few other highlights of Apolong. (www.chinabuses.org)
