30 Units Golden Dragon Electric Buses Start Official Operation in Shantou

www.chinabuses.org: On July 12, Shantou Municipal Government officially launched the city’s first public transport project by putting 30 units Golden Dragon XML6105JEV60C buses into operation. Liu Xiaotao, Mayor of Shantou, together with other officials took a ride with Golden Dragon buses. While on board, mayor Liu Xiaotao showed keen interest in the electric buses, making inquires about the specifications of the vehicle and drivers’ recruitment and training.
After riding Golden Dragon buses, Liu Xiaotao expressed his hope for more citizens to choose public transport. According to Liu, Shantou is investing heavily in the public transport sector in order to provide more comfortable and more convenient services for local citizens. In response to the current shortage of bus drivers, Liu says that bus drivers all shoulder heavy responsibilities and the government is now in the process of rolling out more favorable policies to encourage people to work in the public transport sector.
In 2016, Shantou is planning to purchase 300 units energy buses and build its BRT system. By the end of this year, it will officially launch the construction of the first phase of its BRT system. Among the first batch of 50 electric buses bought this year by Shantou, 30 units are Golden Dragon XML6105JEV60C and they will be put on the major bus routes in the city. In addition, six recharging posts will finish their construction at Chaoyang Station to meet the power needs of new energy buses.
