Dongfeng Electric Vehicle (DFEV), an R&D arm of Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor Corp, has developed a battery management system for hybrid electric vehicles by using MathWorks tools for Model-Based Design, the Enhanced Online News reported last week. The new battery management system has been installed in Dongfeng's EQ6110 hybrid electric city bus, which delivers 30% better fuel efficiency than standard city buses while also lowering emissions.

DFEV engineers are reusing the controller design for the company's HEV sedan, which is currently in development. Dongfeng Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd., a hi-tech company located in Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone, is engaging in researching, manufacturing and marketing of electric vehicles (EVs).

The MathWorks, a leading developer of mathematical computing software, employs more than 2100 people in 15 countries, with headquarters in Natick, Massachusetts, U.S.A.

Meanwhile, Dongfeng Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. received an order for delivery of 400 units of hybrid city buses to Wuhan Public Transport Group, as part of the city’s New Energy Vehicle Popularization Initiative.

The eco-friendly buses will be delivered within one year. In addition, the bus operator in the city has already set the target to introduce 1,000 units of new energy powered city buses in the next three years. The vehicles are having a Ni-MH battery as their key component. This battery is provided by Hunan Shenzhou Science & Technology Co., Ltd.
