According to the latest statistics released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), China’s production and sales volume of buses reached 34,900 units and 36,200 units respectively in January this year, down by 43% and 42% respectively compared with those in December, 2020, up by 22% and 30% respectively compared with those in January, 2020.

More specifically, China sold 2,453 units large-sized buses, 3,163 units medium-sized buses, and 30,600 units light buses in January, accounting for 6.78%, 8.74% and 84.5% of the total sales volume respectively.

1. Statistics show that China sold 2,453 units large-sized buses (including chassis), down by 22% year on year. Yutong, with a total sales volume of 1,159 units large-sized buses in January, up by 2% tear on year. It ranked the first place in the market with its market share reaching 47.25%. With a market share 3.11 times larger than Higer, which ranked the second place in the market, Yutong held a predominant role in the market.

The sales of 10.99-meter Yutong ZK6117 and 11.7-meter ZK6120 and 12-meter 6122 were way ahead of their counterparts. The 12-meter Yutong ZK6128, which is chiefly targeted at the high-end market, in particular, enjoyed unrivaled popularity among customers.

In the BRT bus market, Yutong 10.5-meter bus recorded the highest sales volume while the sales of its 12-meter bus accounted for over 10%, showing a growing demand for smaller-sized BRT buses. In addition, two out of three buses sold were powered by electricity. Yutong electric buses have a power storage of 202.93 kW.h, 210.74 kW.h, 303.67 kW.h and 351.23 kW.h respectively.

Higer ranked the second place in the large-sized bus market in China with a market share of 11.44% and a sales volume of 281 units in January, down by 49% year on year.

Zhongtong ranked the third place in the large-sized bus market in China with a market share of 9.29% and a sales volume of 228 units in January, up by 7% year on year.

King Long ranked the fourth place in the large-sized bus market in China with a market share of 9.13% and a sales volume of 224 units in January, down by 12% year on year.

CRRC Electric ranked the fifth place in the large-sized bus market in China with a market share of 5.18% and a sales volume of 127 units in January, down by 19% year on year.

The top five players in the large-sized bus market in China had a combined sales volume of 2,019 units in January, down by 13% year on year. Their combined sales volume accounted for 82.29% of the total sales volume. Among the top five players, three witnessed some downward movements while two (Yutong and Zhongtong) saw some upward movement. More specificially, Zhongtong grew the fastest and Higer experienced the sharpest decline.

2. In the medium-sized bus market, Yutong still played a leading role with an enviable market share of 35.4%. Dongfeng and Zhongtong ranked the second and the third place. Ankai witnessed the fastest growth. The combined sales volume of the top five players in the market accounted for 68% of the total sales volume. Among the top five players, three saw some upward movements (Ankai, King Long and FAW Toyota) while two witnessed some downward movements.

More specifically, China sold 3,163 units medium-sized buses (including chassis) in January this year, down by 60% compared with that in the previous month and down by 19% year on year.

Yutong ranked the first place in the medium-sized bus market in China with a market share of 35.4% and a sales volume of 1,119 units medium-sized buses in January, down by 19% year on year.

Dongfeng ranked the second place in the medium-sized bus market in China with a market share of 9.61% and a sales volume of 304 units medium-sized buses in January, down by 51% year on year.

King Long ranked the third place in the medium-sized bus market in China with a market share of 8.58% and a sales volume of 281 units medium-sized buses in January, up by 37% year on year.

FAW Toyota ranked the fourth place in the medium-sized bus market in China with a market share of 7.11% and a sales volume of 225 units medium-sized buses in January, up by 25% year on year.

Ankai ranked the fifth place in the medium-sized bus market in China with a market share of 6.96% and a sales volume of 220 units medium-sized buses in January, up by 41% year on year.

The combined sales volume of the top five players in the medium-sized bus market accounted for 68% of the total and reached 2,149 units, down by 15.2% year on year.

3. In the light bus market, JMC took the lead in the growth and accounted for more than one quarter of total sales of the market. SAIC Maxus, Chongqing Chang’an ranked the second and the third place.

Statistics show that China sold 30,600 units light buses in January, down by 32% compared with that in the previous month and up by 47% year on year.

JMC ranked the first place in the light bus market in China with a market share of 26.2% and a sales volume of 8,010 units light buses in January, up by 88% year on year.

SAIC Maxus ranked the second place in the light bus market in China with a market share of 15.3% and a sales volume of 4,669 units light buses in January, up by 40% year on year.

Chongqing Chang’an ranked the third place in the light bus market in China with a market share of 12.72% and a sales volume of 3,891 units light buses in January, up by 74% year on year.

Nanjing Iveco ranked the fourth place in the light bus market in China with a market share of 11.5% and a sales volume of 3,517 units light buses in January, up by 87% year on year.

Foton ranked the fifth place in the light bus market in China with a market share of 10.1% and a sales volume of 3,084 units light buses in January, up by 37% year on year.

The combined sales volume of the top five players in the light bus market accounted for 75.82% of the total. Moreover, all five players witnessed varied degrees of growths.
